Prince – Housequake (Live from Sign O’ The Times Tour)

DISCLAIMER: This video is likely to disappear. This will briefly explain why.

I felt a need to share this video for one of two reasons. Firstly, it’s one my favourite musical performances by an artist captured on film, taken from the Sign O’ The Times (1987) concert film on the back of releasing one of the greatest double albums in rock n’ roll history - Sign O’ The Times (Both TIME magazine and Rolling Stone ranked the album in their 100 greatest of all time. The former calling it the “best album of the 80s”). Prince pulled off the tour of a lifetime. Although he was at the height of his powers here, this is around the time that people were getting sick of him due to a music-overdose of releases. But here he reverted back to this dark, cult-like figure akin to his 1999 days and provided a real treat for those that decided to stick with him. All moments of musical genius aside; no performance better represents Prince as a perfectionist. It’s also memorable for marking the era which was the beginning of the end for him; it was mainly down hill from here after. As for my second reason for posting this: Prince videos are such rare occurrence on the internet these days, they must be celebrated for their existence alone. There is no such thing as Prince on YouTube anymore so I had to revert to Dailymotion or the poor man’s YouTube. It makes me so mad that music fans are starved of Prince exposure on the internet; leading them to believe the only the thing the man is good for is coming up with a squiggle for a name and suing his fans. Sign of the times indeed. Sigh.

I previously wrote about touching Prince’s pants here.
